Many acts of kindness add up to a big impact. This was recently demonstrated in an inspiring initiative led by our Half Moon Bay PS School Council.

After schools closed, the Council reached out to our parent community, offering them the option to donate unused milk and pizza program money to the Barrhaven Food Cupboard (BFC) in lieu of a refund.

The response was overwhelming – many families opted to donate, raising a total of $13,829. In a virtual cheque presentation ceremony, the school shared the news with BFC President Kevin Miller and Director of Communications Harpreet Singh. Watch the video below!

BFC is a community-led organization that provides food assistance to families in need in the Barrhaven area. At Half Moon Bay, we have previously supported the organization with three student-led food drives. This winter, our Grade 5 students visited BFC on a field trip, getting an in-person glimpse at how it supports our local community.

"Our Half Moon Bay PS mission statement is to care, create, collaborate and be part of the community," says Principal Aisling O'Donnell, “and we hope this is a really tangible example of that. Our parents made the choice to share with our local community, on behalf of their students and their school, to really support those in need at this time."

The Half Moon Bay PS School Council is committed to giving back to our community. The Council also donates a portion of its funds to the Education Foundation of Ottawa.
Thank you to our School Council and all families at Half Moon Bay for setting such an outstanding example of our OCDSB Culture of Caring in these challenging times!
